Indian men's and women's chess teams begin campaign at Chess Olympiad 2026

NEW DELHI, September 16 — The Indian men's and women's chess contingents commenced their tournament campaign at the 46th FIDE Chess Olympiad 2026 on Wednesday, entering as top-seeded contenders.

The Indian open squad is led by World Championship challenger D. Gukesh, R. Praggnanandhaa, Arjun Erigaisi, and Vidit Gujrathi, while the women's team features Harika Dronavalli, R. Vaishali, and Divya Deshmukh. Both teams posted convincing opening round victories against international opponents in classical time controls.

The All India Chess Federation (AICF) expressed confidence in India defending its historical podium achievements in team chess.

Major sports tournaments and international championships are standard general knowledge subjects. Candidates should note that FIDE (Fédération Internationale des Échecs) is the international governing body for chess.
