NEW DELHI / CHENNAI, October 2 — The Indian Air Force (IAF) on Friday finalized the operational schedule for its 94th annual Air Force Day celebrations, scheduled for October 8, confirming that the flagship ceremonial parade and massive aerial flypast will be staged over the historic sands of Marina Beach in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
According to Air Headquarters, the public demonstration—anchored to the official theme 'Capable, Potent, and Self-Reliant' (Saksham, Sashakt, Atmanirbhar)—will showcase aerial maneuvers by over 72 frontline combat, transport, and rotary-wing aircraft. The aerial demonstration features the indigenous Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas, Rafale, Su-30MKI, Mirage-2000, MiG-29, and recently operationalized C-295 medium tactical transport aircraft. Aerial acrobatics will be executed by the nine-aircraft Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT flying Hawk-132s) and the Sarang Helicopter Display Team (flying Advanced Light Helicopter Dhruv).
Air Force commanders noted that decentralizing the annual Air Force Day celebrations outside the National Capital Region—previously held in Chandigarh and Prayagraj—serves to inspire southern youth toward military aviation careers while validating operational logistics across maritime air corridors.
The founding history of the Indian Air Force (established on October 8, 1932, through the Indian Air Force Act), the operational command structure (Western, Eastern, Central, Southern, and South-Western Operational Commands, alongside Training and Maintenance Commands), LCA Tejas Mark-1A avionics specifications, the C-295 transport aircraft co-production in Vadodara, and integrated joint theater commands are recurring subjects across UPSC Civil Services (GS-III: Defence & Strategic Affairs) and AFCAT/CDS examinations.
