If x + 1/x = p then x² + 1/x² = p² − 2 and x³ + 1/x³ = p³ − 3p. With p = 5: 23 and 110. If x − 1/x = q then x² + 1/x² = q² + 2. With q = 3: 11.
Core identities ·
a² + b² = (a + b)² − 2ab = (a − b)² + 2ab. (a + b)² − (a − b)² = 4ab. a³ + b³ = (a + b)³ − 3ab(a + b). a³ − b³ = (a − b)³ + 3ab(a − b). If a + b + c = 0 then a³ + b³ + c³ = 3abc.
a² + b² = (a + b)² − 2ab = (a − b)² + 2ab। (a + b)² − (a − b)² = 4ab। a³ + b³ = (a + b)³ − 3ab(a + b)। a³ − b³ = (a − b)³ + 3ab(a − b)। यदि a + b + c = 0 तो a³ + b³ + c³ = 3abc।

6x² + 17x + 12: split 6 as 2 × 3 and 12 as 3 × 4. Cross-check 2 × 4 + 3 × 3 = 17 ✓, so (2x + 3)(3x + 4).
Samuccaya: equal sums of denominators ·
1/(x + 7) + 1/(x + 9) = 1/(x + 6) + 1/(x + 10). The sums of the denominators on both sides are the same (2x + 16), so set it to zero: x = −8. Check: 1/(−1) + 1/(1) = 0 and 1/(−2) + 1/(2) = 0 ✓.
1/(x + 7) + 1/(x + 9) = 1/(x + 6) + 1/(x + 10)।

Why it works ·
Each identity is the expansion of (a ± b)² or (a ± b)³ rearranged. The Samuccaya case works because both fractions simplify to (sum of denominators) over (product of denominators); if the sums are equal, either the sum is zero or the products are equal, and here the products are not.
Always check that the products are not equal before setting the common sum to zero. If they are equal the equation is an identity (all x) and the shortcut would miss it.
The Samuccaya rule needs the exact pattern of equal sums; for anything else use ordinary algebra.
