Pattern from the 2020 notification
| Part | Subject | Questions | Duration | Marks |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Part A | General Studies and Mental Ability | 50 | 50 min | 50 |
| Part B | Drawing and Survey | 100 | 100 min | 100 |
| Total | 150 | 150 min | 150 |
The test was an OMR-based objective written test. Each wrong answer carried a negative mark of 0.25. The question count equals the mark count, so one question is one mark and, as arithmetic from the scheme, four wrong answers cancel one correct answer. Two thirds of the marks sat in Part B.
These numbers belong to the Revenue Department notification of 2020 for Village Revenue Officer (Grade-II), the last full notification for this post that we could read officially. As of 7 October 2026 neither the APPSC notifications list nor the CCLA notifications page showed a VRO or VRA notification. If a new notification changes the scheme, follow the notification.
How selection worked in 2020
Selection was on merit in the written test. Each district was the unit of appointment, a District Selection Committee prepared the selection and the District Collector was the appointing authority. Reservations under the State and Subordinate Service Rules applied, and local status rules decided which district a candidate could apply for. The Government reserved the right to decide the cut-off marks. Ties were resolved by age, with the older candidate ranked higher, and then by the earlier date of the qualifying certificate. Appointment was subject to medical fitness, and selected candidates had to reside in the village where they were posted. The answer key and each candidate's marks were displayed on the website; no separate memorandum of marks was issued.
Qualification and age in 2020
The notification asked for a pass in SSC together with the NCVT certificate in the Draughtsman (Civil) trade with Surveying as a subject, from a recognised ITI; higher qualification in the same trade was also accepted. The age limit was 18 to 42 years as on 1 July 2020, with relaxations for reserved and other listed categories. Selected candidates had to pass a computer proficiency test within six months. These are 2020 rules; check the current notification for the qualification before you plan.
Where the post sits
The VRO Grade-II is a Revenue Department functionary who works from the village office renamed Swarna Gramam by Act 17 of 2026, deemed in force from 13 January 2026. The renaming changed the office name, not the service: a VRO remains a revenue employee under revenue service rules. The duties are fixed by the job chart in G.O.Ms.No.415 of 26 September 2019.
What this page does not have
A current notification, vacancy count, exam date, fee or pay: none exists on an official page as of the date above, and figures reported by other websites are unverified. A VRA pattern: we could not open an official order that sets out the VRA recruitment scheme for the current year. For the full background read our AP VRO and VRA guide; the topic lists are on the syllabus page.
