Everything on this page is our study advice, not an official scheme. The syllabus is on the syllabus page and the marks and rules on the exam pattern page. As of 7 October 2026 no VRO or VRA notification exists on an official page, so the plan is built on the 2020 scheme; re-check the qualification and scheme when a notification appears.

Start with Part B, because that is where the marks are

In 2020 Part B Drawing and Survey carried 100 of the 150 marks. Many general guides skip it, and that is the gap to exploit. Part B rewards practice with a pencil, so keep a set of drawing instruments and attempt at least two drawings a day. Learn to state the result before drawing: a scale of 1:500 means 1 cm on the drawing is 5 m on the ground, so a 40 m plot draws as 8 cm; a backsight of 1.525 m on a benchmark of 100.000 m followed by a foresight of 0.945 m is a rise of 0.580 m. Sketch English bond and Flemish bond in two courses until the difference is automatic.

Then Part A, where marks come quickly

Part A is 50 marks at roughly one mark a minute, so it is the fastest ground to cover. Divide it into three buckets. State-specific facts: the history, culture, geography and welfare schemes of Andhra Pradesh, with an "as on" date beside every figure. Governance: the 73rd and 74th Amendments, the difference between a gram panchayat and the village office now called Swarna Gramam, and the role of revenue officials in disasters. Aptitude: ten percentage, ratio and data-interpretation questions in ten minutes a day holds speed.

A ten-week plan

Weeks Part B Part A
1 to 2 Lettering, scales, geometric construction Aptitude basics, reasoning
3 to 4 Projection, plan and elevation, conventional signs AP history, geography
5 to 6 Building drawing details; chain survey and offsets Polity, 73rd and 74th Amendments, schemes
7 to 8 Compass, levelling, contours, earthwork Current affairs, English
9 Full Part B practice papers Full Part A sets
10 Three full 150-minute papers Error log

The job chart in G.O.Ms.No.415 of 26 September 2019 asks the VRO to inspect every field, check survey stones twice a year, protect government land from encroachment and report calamities. Read each Part B head as a tool for one of those duties; the drawing syllabus then feels like the job, not a trade exam.

Negative marking discipline

In 2020 a wrong answer cost 0.25, so four wrong answers cancelled one right answer. Guess only after eliminating at least one option, and keep an error log (topic, reason, fix) after every timed paper.

Common mistakes

Treating the exam as general studies only; reading the 2020 pay figures as current; planning around vacancy numbers that are not on an official page; treating Swarna Gramam as a new post rather than the renamed village office; and assuming the 2020 qualification will not change.

Practise on Pareeksha

The 10-question mini-mock and Daily Dangal are free and suit Part A and aptitude; full-length mocks and topic practice are part of Pro. Drawing needs paper and instruments, so use mocks for Part A and the calculation heads of Part B. For the job chart and the full 2020 rules, read our AP VRO and VRA guide.

Frequently asked questions

How should I prepare for the AP VRO exam?

Start with Part B Drawing and Survey because it carried two thirds of the marks in 2020, then build Part A through daily arithmetic, reasoning and Andhra Pradesh general knowledge; this is our advice, not an official scheme.

Can I prepare for VRO from a general studies book alone?

No. In 2020 only 50 of the 150 marks were general studies; the other 100 tested lettering, scales, projection, building drawing, chain survey, compass and levelling.

Should I start preparing before a notification?

Yes for the skills, since Part B needs months of practice with instruments, but confirm the qualification and scheme in the notification before you commit to a plan.

Which mocks are free on Pareeksha?

The 10-question mini-mock and Daily Dangal are free; full-length mocks and topic practice are part of Pro.
