04 | Alluri Sitarama Raju: Manyam Veerudu

Alluri Sitarama Raju led the Rampa rebellion of 1922–24 against British colonial rule in the forested Agency region. The Ministry of Culture and Alluri district history both connect him with the struggle and the honorific Manyam Veerudu, “hero of the forest.” The movement involved tribal communities and grievances about restrictions and exploitation; treating Alluri as a solitary fighter erases the participation of many local people. The current district named for him is an administrative commemoration, not the historical extent of the revolt.

Exam questions commonly pair Alluri with the Rampa/Manyam struggle. Separate that from non-violent civic-tax protest at Chirala-Perala and from the Salt Satyagraha. These methods, places and periods differ. Some popular biographies add legendary details or precise encounter narratives; use a cited historical source before testing those claims. For map recall, place the rebellion in the northeastern hill/forest belt rather than on the Krishna delta coast.

Worked example: Alluri Sitarama Raju is associated with the Rampa rebellion and the forested Manyam region. A heroic title such as Manyam Veerudu is a recognition cue, not a substitute for understanding the forest laws and local grievances in the movement. On the map, identify the broad agency area; do not place an invented exact headquarters from a stylised marker.

Active recall: State Alluri's movement, broad period, region and honorific. Who else besides its best-known leader participated?
