CRPF marks 88th Foundation Day, World Hepatitis Day observed globally

NEW DELHI, July 27-28 — The Central Reserve Police Force observed its 88th Foundation Day on July 27, commemorating its establishment as the Crown Representative's Police at Neemuch in Madhya Pradesh in 1939, before being renamed and reconstituted as the CRPF under a 1949 Act following India's independence. The force, India's largest central armed police organisation, traces its formation partly to the Madras Resolution passed by the All India Congress Committee in 1936, which had called for a strong internal security mechanism.

A day later, on July 28, the world marked World Hepatitis Day, observed annually to raise awareness about viral hepatitis and push forward the global goal of eliminating it as a public health threat by 2030. This year's theme, "Hepatitis: Let's Break It Down," continues a campaign that began in 2008 and was formally recognised by the World Health Organization in 2010. The date honours Dr Baruch Samuel Blumberg, who discovered the Hepatitis B virus in 1967.

Important days are a guaranteed feature of general awareness papers — aspirants should note the theme, the year of origin, and the historical or scientific reason behind the chosen date for each observance.
