NEW DELHI, July 29 — OmniCard, a payments platform run by Eroute Technologies, has launched what it calls India's first Flexi Benefits Basket on UPI, giving employees a single digital wallet to spend tax-efficiently across categories like meals, fuel, telecom and books.
Built on OmniCard's RBI-licensed prepaid payment instrument platform, the wallet can be used at roughly 60 million UPI-accepting merchants across the country, with spending controls built around merchant category codes to ensure funds are used only within eligible categories. The company says the product is designed to simplify how employers administer flexible benefits while keeping the process compliant with tax rules governing such allowances.
OmniCard, which launched in 2021 as an AI-driven corporate spend management platform, has been expanding its product suite to cover a wider range of employee benefit and expense management use cases, an area that has seen rising interest from Indian companies looking to modernise payroll-linked perks.
For banking and computer awareness sections, this is a useful example of how UPI's merchant network is being layered with new fintech products beyond simple person-to-merchant payments.
