MUMBAI, October 21 — The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) formally operationalized the nationwide rollout of the 'Unified Lending Interface' (ULI) on Tuesday, establishing a plug-and-play digital public infrastructure to deliver frictionless credit to smallholder farmers and MSMEs.
Architected by the Reserve Bank Innovation Hub (RBIH), ULI functions on open-standard Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) that seamlessly connect lending banks and NBFCs with consented, digitized state land records, satellite crop yield imagery, milk federation pouring data, GSTN filings, and Account Aggregator financial flows. This automated data triangulation enables instantaneous credit underwriting and loan disbursement within minutes without physical documentation.
The RBI Governor emphasized that combining the JAM trinity (Jan Dhan-Aadhaar-Mobile) and UPI with ULI forms a transformative 'New Trinity' in India’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) stack, bridging the formal credit gap for rural agricultural borrowers and micro-enterprises.
The technical architecture of India Stack and Digital Public Infrastructure, the regulatory mandate of the Reserve Bank Innovation Hub (Bengaluru), the consent-based Account Aggregator (AA) ecosystem, and Priority Sector Lending (PSL) targets are high-priority study topics across RBI Grade B, IBPS PO, and UPSC GS-III.
