NEW DELHI, July 29 — Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal announced the formation of a task force to support India's toy manufacturing sector, with the government setting a target of capturing 5 percent of the global toy market by 2032.
The announcement came at a stakeholder meeting organised by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade in New Delhi, bringing together toy manufacturers, exporters and industry groups to chart a growth roadmap for a sector the government has flagged as a priority for domestic manufacturing. The task force will focus on integrating Indian toy makers into global value chains, addressing manufacturing bottlenecks, building a skilled workforce, and improving design and export competitiveness.
Officials also announced a "Toy Sector Playbook," a roadmap document for manufacturers, startups and small businesses covering quality standards, skill development, innovation and export procedures. India's toy ecosystem currently includes more than 21,000 MSMEs and over 770 recognised startups spread across roughly 50 manufacturing clusters, according to figures shared at the event.
