ITANAGAR, August 4 — The Union Ministry for Environment, Forest and Climate Change announced that Glaw Lake, a high-altitude freshwater body in Arunachal Pradesh, has been officially designated as India's 101st Ramsar Site of international importance.

Located in the Lohit district, Glaw Lake is surrounded by dense subtropical forests and serves as a vital habitat for several endangered species of flora and fauna, including rare birds and medicinal plants. The designation highlights the lake's ecological importance and ensures international support for its conservation and sustainable use.

State forest department officials stated that the Ramsar status will help implement scientific conservation plans, monitor water quality, and promote eco-tourism initiatives that benefit local communities.

Ramsar sites and environmental milestones are heavily tested in general awareness sections of competitive exams. Candidates should note that the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands is an intergovernmental treaty signed in Ramsar, Iran, in 1971, and that Glaw Lake is India's 101st designated site.
