NEW DELHI, August 4 — The Supreme Court of India directed state governments on Tuesday to close all police cases (FIRs) filed against students involved in recent NEET-UG paper leak protests, provided they are not accused of serious criminal offences.
A bench led by the Chief Justice of India observed that students who participated in peaceful demonstrations should not face career-damaging legal actions. The court clarified that this relief applies only to peaceful assemblies and does not cover individuals accused of violence, vandalism, or organized paper leak syndicates.
The order aims to protect student career prospects while ensuring that the central investigation into paper leak networks continues without compromise.
