NEW DELHI, October 6 — The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has officially operationalized the centralized online application window on its portal `ssc.gov.in` for recruitment to the positions of Navik (General Duty) and Navik (Domestic Branch) in the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) for the 01/2027 induction batch.
Under the comprehensive recruitment notification, the premier maritime defence force seeks to induct 320 male sailors across regional coastal commands, comprising 260 vacancies for Navik (GD) and 60 vacancies for Navik (DB). The minimum educational threshold for Navik (GD) entails passing 10+2 with Mathematics and Physics from a recognized educational council, whereas Navik (DB) mandates a Class 10 Matriculation certificate alongside designated age and physical fitness criteria.
The online application window will remain active through October 27, 2026, with computer-based screening assessments scheduled tentatively for December. The multi-tiered selection framework comprises Stage-I Computer-Based Examination testing quantitative aptitude, science, reasoning, and English; Stage-II Physical Fitness Test (1.6 km run, squats, and push-ups) and document verification; and Stage-III/IV final medical evaluations at INS Chilka in Odisha.
Maritime boundary enforcement, armed forces command hierarchy, and coastal security architecture form recurring areas of inquiry in defence entrance tests (NDA, CDS) and SSC General Awareness sections. Aspirants should note that the Indian Coast Guard operates under the administrative aegis of the Ministry of Defence, having been statutorily established under the Coast Guard Act of 1978 following recommendations of the Rustamji Committee, with its headquarters in New Delhi and its operational motto being 'Vayam Rakshamah' (We Protect).
