NEW DELHI, October 20 — The Election Commission of India (ECI) notified the comprehensive operational schedule on Monday for the nationwide Special Summary Revision of Photo Electoral Rolls (SSR 2027) with reference to January 1, 2027 as the qualifying date.
Under statutory provisions of the Registration of Electors Rules 1960, citizens attaining the age of 18 years on or before the qualifying date can submit advance enrollment applications using Form-6 via the Voter Helpline App or the national voter services portal. The framework incorporates four annual qualifying dates (January 1, April 1, July 1, and October 1) introduced via the Election Laws (Amendment) Act, facilitating continuous registration for emerging young voters.
The Chief Election Commissioner directed state Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) to execute 100% field verification through Booth Level Officers (BLOs), eliminating demographically similar duplicate entries while ensuring doorstep postal ballot facilities are systematically mapped for voters with benchmark disabilities and citizens aged 85 and above.
Constitutional mandates governing the Election Commission of India under Article 324, statutory distinctions between the Representation of the People Act 1950 and the Representation of the People Act 1951, the 61st Constitutional Amendment Act 1988 lowering voting age to 18, and electoral reforms are central topics for UPSC GS-II.
