This page outlines the syllabus for Hostel Welfare Officer Grade-II in the Social Welfare, Tribal Welfare and BC Welfare departments, from Annexure-II of the detailed APPSC Notification No. 25/2026 dated 9 October 2026. Topic headings are the Commission's; grouping and comments are ours. For questions, marks and timings see the exam pattern. Download the annexure from psc.ap.gov.in; its wording is the only authentic list.

Syllabus at a glance

Paper Subject Questions Marks Standard
Paper-I General Studies and Mental Ability 150 150 Degree
Paper-II Education 150 150 Degree
Computer Proficiency Test (qualifying, practical) Office skills on a computer 100 Practical

A single-level computer-based recruitment test with no Screening Test, whatever the number of applications. The paper is set in English and translated into Telugu; English is authentic where the versions differ.

Paper-I: General Studies and Mental Ability

Annexure-II lists ten items, with an Andhra Pradesh emphasis through the knowledge items:

  1. Current affairs of international, national and Andhra Pradesh importance.
  2. General science and its applications, with contemporary developments in science, technology and information technology.
  3. History of India, with a focus on Andhra Pradesh and the national movement.
  4. Geography of India, with a focus on Andhra Pradesh.
  5. Indian polity and governance.
  6. Indian economy and planning.
  7. Sustainable development and environmental protection.
  8. Disaster management.
  9. Logical reasoning, analytical ability and interpretation.
  10. Data analysis: mean, median, mode and variance.

Our reading, not the Commission's: there is no General English or General Telugu section, so no marks come from language items; and items 9 and 10 are separate blocks, so a candidate who stops at reasoning leaves the data-analysis marks behind.

Paper-II: Education

Paper-II is a full subject paper on Education, worth half the merit marks, pitched at a candidate with B.Ed. or equivalent. The exact list of Education topics is in Annexure-II of the detailed notification; we have not reproduced or paraphrased it, so read it on psc.ap.gov.in and tick each heading as you cover it.
