NEW DELHI, August 6 — The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) on Thursday following heavy rainfall that caused waterlogging and traffic congestion across several areas.
The weather department warned of moderate to heavy thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds. Local municipal bodies have deployed emergency response teams and water pumps to clear low-lying residential sectors.
Residents are advised to monitor official traffic alerts and avoid parking near old structures or power lines.
Weather warnings and meteorological parameters are standard general studies topics. Candidates should note that the IMD uses a four-colour code system (Green, Yellow, Orange, Red) to denote weather warning severity, with orange indicating "be prepared" for severe weather.
