IMD issues red warning for heavy rainfall in Assam and Meghalaya

Share🟢✈️𝕏fin

NEW DELHI, August 5 — The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert warning on Wednesday for extremely heavy rainfall across the northeastern states of Assam and Meghalaya.

The weather department stated that active monsoon conditions are likely to trigger heavy downpours, causing landslides in hilly areas and flash floods in low-lying river basins. Local administrations have been directed to set up emergency control rooms and coordinate rescue operations with disaster response forces.

Residents in vulnerable zones are advised to monitor weather updates and avoid travel near landslide-prone slopes.

Monsoon patterns and weather agencies are standard general awareness topics. Candidates should know that the India Meteorological Department (IMD), under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, is the principal government agency responsible for meteorological observations and weather forecasting.
