GUWAHATI, August 5 — The death toll due to the ongoing monsoon floods in Assam rose to 87 on Wednesday, with state disaster management agencies reporting new casualties in inundated districts.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), approximately 1.3 lakh people remain affected across multiple revenue circles. Major rivers, including the Brahmaputra, continue to flow above the danger level at several monitoring stations, maintaining waterlogging in rural areas and agricultural fields.
The state administration has set up relief camps and distribution centres to provide food grains, medicines, and drinking water. Search and rescue teams are working in coordination with local administrations to evacuate stranded families.
