NEW DELHI, August 5 — India marked the seventh anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370 on Wednesday, commemorating the historic decision to integrate Jammu and Kashmir fully into the union.
The decision, made on August 5, 2019, revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and reorganized the state into two Union Territories: Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh. The BJP highlighted the progress in infrastructure, increased tourism, and decline in security incidents in the region over the last seven years.
The Home Ministry stated that security measures and developmental projects continue to run in both Union Territories to ensure economic growth and stability.
Constitutional history and structural reforms in Jammu and Kashmir are frequently tested in competitive exams. Candidates should know that Article 370 was revoked under a Presidential Order in 2019, and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019 took effect on October 31, 2019.
