NEW DELHI, August 8 — ASEAN Day was observed on Saturday, August 8, marking the 59th anniversary of the establishment of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and highlighting India-ASEAN strategic partnership.
Established in 1967 with the signing of the ASEAN Declaration (Bangkok Declaration) in Bangkok, Thailand, the intergovernmental organization promotes economic, political, and security cooperation among its ten member states. Under its Act East Policy, India has strengthened bilateral ties, trade agreements, and maritime security cooperation with the block.
Official events and business summits were organized to explore new opportunities in digital trade, green energy, and security.
