NEW DELHI, October 5 — External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar called on the President of the Swiss Confederation, H.E. Mr. Guy Parmelin, in New Delhi, engaging in wide-ranging discussions on accelerating high-technology bilateral cooperation, supply chain security, and key regional and global developments.
During the engagement, Dr. Jaishankar underscored that India's expanding digital public infrastructure, rapid industrial electrification, and large talent base offer expansive opportunities for Swiss enterprises specializing in precision instrumentation, green hydrogen, and advanced railway engineering. The discussion evaluated actionable roadmaps to operationalize the investment obligations enshrined under the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA).
The two leaders also surveyed multilateral geopolitical trends, reaffirming mutual commitments toward a rules-based international order and maritime security across global commons. Dr. Jaishankar welcomed the newly signed Young Professionals Scheme and Mobility pacts as transformative frameworks facilitating talent mobility between the two nations.
Bilateral foreign policy, economic diplomacy, and India-Europe strategic convergence constitute high-priority areas in UPSC GS Paper II (International Relations). Candidates should remember that India and Switzerland signed the historic Treaty of Friendship and Settlement in New Delhi on August 14, 1948, marking one of the earliest bilateral treaties entered into by newly independent India with a European democracy.
