NEW DELHI, September 17 — The Union Cabinet cleared a proposal by the Ministry of Labour and Employment to raise the monthly wage ceiling under the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000.
The wage limit revision expands mandatory provident fund, pension, and insurance coverage to millions of formal sector workers across private enterprises and industrial units. Under the revised framework, mandatory PF contributions will apply to employees drawing a basic salary up to ₹25,000 per month, boosting retirement savings and social security net coverage.
Labour Ministry officials noted that the wage ceiling was last revised in September 2014, when it was raised from ₹6,500 to ₹15,000.
