Asian Games 2026 Aichi-Nagoya begins on September 19 — India's contingent primed

NEW DELHI, September 17 — India's 650-member contingent is all set to compete at the 20th Asian Games (Aichi-Nagoya 2026) which commences on September 19, 2026, in Japan.

India has entered athletes across disciplines including athletics, wrestling, archery, shooting, badminton, hockey, boxing, and cricket. The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) confirmed that 40 countries will participate across 40 sports and 481 events. Flag bearers for the Indian contingent were announced by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).

India's previous best tally at the Asian Games was 107 medals (28 gold, 38 silver, 41 bronze) at Hangzhou 2022.

Asian Games is a prestigious multi-sport international event held every four years. Candidates should know that the Asian Games are governed by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and were first held in New Delhi in 1951.
