KADAPA, October 5 — Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan formally conducted the ground-breaking ceremony for the ₹30,000-crore "Jal Jeevan Mission – Amarajeevi Jaladhara" bulk water grid at a state event in Kadapa.
The massive water security initiative will supply treated surface water to over 18,000 rural habitations and tribal thandas across chronic drought and high-fluoride zones in the Rayalaseema basin (Anantapur, Kurnool, Nandyal, and YSR Kadapa) and the Prakasam coastal belt. The physical blueprint encompasses more than 12,000 kilometers of high-pressure ductile iron transmission corridors, 240 integrated raw water treatment plants, and solar-hybrid booster stations drawing sustainable inflows from the Krishna and Godavari river basins.
Chief Minister Naidu affirmed that the mega-project carries a stringent 36-month commissioning charter co-financed on a 50:50 sharing ratio under the Union Jal Shakti Ministry's Jal Jeevan Mission. Deputy Chief Minister Kalyan stated that IoT-enabled water testing sensors and automated SCADA valves will monitor potability and end-to-end chlorine residual levels at village delivery nodes.
Piped water infrastructure metrics, ground-water fluoride remediation, and Centrally Sponsored Jal Jeevan Mission mandates are critical topics in APPSC Group 1/2 and UPSC GS Paper II (Governance) and GS Paper III (Infrastructure). Candidates should note that the Jal Jeevan Mission aims to provide 55 litres per capita per day (lpcd) of safe drinking water to every rural household through Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTC).
