NEW DELHI, October 5 — The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has completed the application window for the engagement of specialized project personnel under its interdisciplinary national research project (Project No. HCP522403) dedicated to the scientific decoding and experimental replication of ancient Indian metallurgical heritage.
The project integrates advanced materials characterization laboratories with historical philological analysis, scientifically investigating ancient smelting methodologies—including Damascus/Wootz crucible steel, zinc distillation at Zawar, and high-tin bronzes—documented in classical Sanskrit treatises such as the Rasaratna Samuccaya and Arthashastra. The recruitment engages Sanskrit linguists, materials scientists, and metallurgical engineers holding M.Sc, B.Tech/M.Tech, or doctoral degrees.
Candidate selection proceeds via structured expert interviews evaluating domain laboratory skills and textual research background. Appointees will be onboarded as Project Associates and Senior Research Fellows receiving consolidated monthly stipends ranging from ₹31,000 to ₹42,000 alongside statutory House Rent Allowance (HRA).
Ancient Indian scientific developments, metallurgy in the Vedic and classical eras, and the institutional mandate of CSIR are core topics in UPSC GS Paper I (Art & Culture) and GS Paper III (Indigenous Science & Technology). Candidates should note that the CSIR was established on September 26, 1942 as an autonomous premier R&D society with the Prime Minister of India serving as its ex-officio President.
