NEW DELHI, October 14 — The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) on Wednesday published an official addendum to the Combined Graduate Level Examination (SSC CGL 2026) notification on its portal (ssc.gov.in), revising the aggregate vacancies upward from 17,727 to 18,240 positions following updated requisition inputs from participating central user departments.
According to the Commission's updated post-wise vacancy matrix, the accretion is led by higher reported indents for Inspector cadres (Central Excise, Preventive Officer, and Examiner) under the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) and Tax Assistant cadres under the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). Incremental seats were also notified across the Department of Posts for Postal Assistants/Sorting Assistants, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India for Assistant Accounts Officers, and the Intelligence Bureau (IB) for Assistant Central Intelligence Officers.
The Commission affirmed that the expanded intake will govern the Tier-I normalization shortlisting ratio ahead of the multi-session Tier-II Computer-Based Examination. Tier-II evaluates candidates across Paper-I (incorporating Mathematical Abilities, Reasoning, English Language, General Awareness, and mandatory qualifying modules in Computer Knowledge and Data Entry Speed).
The administrative structure of Central Group 'B' and 'C' civil service recruitments, pay matrix progressions under the 7th Central Pay Commission (spanning Pay Level-4 to Pay Level-8), roles of the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) in cadre vacancy review, and competitive preparation strategies are focal topics for SSC CGL, SSC CHSL, and central exam aspirants.
