The appointed day notified for the reorganisation was 2 June 2014. On that date, Telangana was formed and the remaining territory continued as the successor State of Andhra Pradesh. “Passed in Parliament,” “President's assent,” “Gazette publication” and “appointed day” are different legal dates. The 2014 Act received assent on 1 March 2014; the appointed day was later. An exam option that swaps March and June is testing this distinction.
There is a later capital milestone: the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Act, 2026, received assent on 6 April 2026 and is deemed to have come into force on 2 June 2024. The retroactive commencement applies to its amendment of the capital provision, not to every part of the original reorganisation. A useful timeline has three lanes: 2014 territorial and institutional transition, the end of the common-capital window in 2024, and 2026 statutory naming of Amaravati. Use the timeline plate before memorising an isolated date.
Worked example: Draw a four-date line: assent on 1 March 2014, appointed day on 2 June 2014, the end of the maximum common-capital period in 2024, and assent to the capital amendment on 6 April 2026. The amendment is deemed effective from 2 June 2024. If an option calls 2026 the day Telangana was formed, the error is a swapped legal event, not a minor date typo.
Active recall: Match 1 March 2014, 2 June 2014, 2 June 2024 and 6 April 2026 to their events.

The timeline separates assent, appointed day, end of the maximum common-capital period and later amendment. Read each legal event on its own lane; the 2026 Act is deemed effective in 2024 only for its amendment.
