The Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Act, 2026, is Act 7 of 2026. It substitutes the phrase in Section 5(2) so that Amaravati is the new capital of AP, and inserts an explanation referring to capital-city areas notified under the AP Capital Region Development Authority Act, 2014. The Gazette says the amendment is deemed to have come into force on 2 June 2024. This is an important 2026 current-affairs addition to an otherwise static 2014 law.
Do not confuse four separate things: the 2014 Act's original requirement for a new capital, the AP government's notification and planning of Amaravati, the 2026 Union amendment naming it in the central Act, and progress on capital construction. The APCRDA portal holds later orders and master-plan documents, including sanctions for particular buildings. Those documents establish actions by date, not that every promised facility is complete. An exam may ask “Which Act named Amaravati?” The answer is the 2026 amendment to the 2014 Reorganisation Act.
Worked example: Read the 2026 Gazette as an amending instruction, not as a full replacement of the 2014 Act. It substitutes the capital phrase in Section 5(2) and adds an explanation linking Amaravati to notified capital-city areas under the APCRDA Act. The Gazette names a place in law. A construction tender, expenditure release, and occupied building each require separate evidence and may have different dates.
Active recall: Give the 2026 Act number, assent date and deemed commencement date. What does its explanation link Amaravati to?
