AP Reorganisation Act 2014 — Explained · Chapter 9
08 | Parliament and Assembly representation

Section 14 allocated 25 Lok Sabha seats to successor AP and 17 to Telangana on the appointed day. Other provisions and schedules addressed Rajya Sabha allocation, Assembly composition and delimitation consequences. A reorganisation law must answer which people elect which legislature immediately after division. The numbers in the Act are a legal starting point, while a later nationwide delimitation could alter allocations under subsequent law.

When studying seats, do not confuse Lok Sabha constituencies with Assembly constituencies or local-body wards. The Second Schedule's detailed constituency list is not the same as a district map. Boundaries and names may be amended after the appointed day. If a question says “under the 2014 Act,” answer from the Act. If it asks a current election fact, verify the Election Commission's present schedule. For AP Police candidates, the 25/17 Lok Sabha split is a high-yield fact; the reasoning behind it is the creation of two successor electorates.

Worked example: An option gives AP 17 Lok Sabha seats and Telangana 25. Section 14 allocates 25 to AP and 17 to Telangana on the appointed day, so the option reverses the pair. Do not import Assembly or Rajya Sabha numbers into that answer. If the question is about a later delimitation rather than the original Act, the current election order becomes the relevant source.

Active recall: State the AP and Telangana Lok Sabha allocations under Section 14. Which body, rather than a district Collector, sets a parliamentary delimitation order?
