16 | Kanaka Durga and Vijayawada

The Kanaka Durga shrine on Indrakeeladri is a leading Vijayawada pilgrimage site beside the Krishna River corridor. Present administrative location is NTR district. Dasara gives the shrine a large seasonal visitor context, but the temple is active outside the festival. An exam may ask deity, city, hill, river or district; learn the chain rather than a single word. Vijayawada's bridges and riverbank are practical location cues, not a claim that the shrine is built in the river.

The place illustrates why pilgrimage and tourism are not synonyms. Worshippers, residents, vendors and general visitors use nearby space differently. Festival routes and queue systems are managed each year, so operational details need fresh official notices. The stable cultural-geography pair is Kanaka Durga—Indrakeeladri—Vijayawada. Do not confuse it with Tirumala's Venkateswara or Srikalahasti's Shiva shrine merely because all three receive large pilgrim flows. A pictured river bend can help locate Vijayawada but does not identify the deity by itself.

Worked example: Kanaka Durga at Vijayawada is associated with Indrakeeladri and the Krishna corridor. A festival crowd photograph may suggest Dasara but cannot prove the exact day's procession. For static exam recall, pair shrine, hill and city. For current affairs, use the year's temple or district schedule, since security and visitor arrangements change.

Active recall: State the deity, hill, city, river corridor and present district in one sentence.
