AP Tourism, Temples and Heritage Sites · Chapter 22
21 | Annavaram Satyanarayana

Annavaram is a major pilgrimage centre in the Kakinada-region landscape, associated with Lord Satyanarayana. Current AP tourism material recognises the shrine as a prominent destination. Do not confuse the temple name with Draksharamam's Bhimeswara Shiva shrine or Pithapuram's varied traditions simply because they all appear in Godavari-region itineraries. A district answer should be taken from a current district source, since older East Godavari administrative descriptions may still circulate online.

For an exam, learn deity, broad Godavari-coastal corridor and site. A hill shrine and a named vrata or devotional observance may be used as clues, but precise service or ticket rules are time-sensitive. The word “Satyanarayana” is a more reliable identifier than a generic tower photograph. Annavaram also demonstrates how a pilgrimage route can combine multiple sites of different sectarian associations; a circuit map groups them for movement, not because their deities are identical.

Worked example: Annavaram is associated with Lord Satyanarayana in the Godavari coast region. A question may place Draksharamam, Pithapuram and Annavaram in one itinerary. The district cluster does not merge their deities or temple histories. Choose by the named shrine, and consult a current district site if the stem asks today's administrative location.

Active recall: Pair Annavaram with its deity. Which nearby Godavari-region temple is instead part of a Shiva Pancharama tradition?
