NEW DELHI, October 4 — The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has formally cleared the Green Energy Corridor Phase-III (GEC-III) scheme with an estimated infrastructure investment outlay of ₹1,86,405 crore to fortify renewable energy grid integration across India.
The mega-infrastructure project facilitates the installation of approximately 22,500 circuit kilometres (ckm) of high-voltage transmission lines and 1,45,000 MVA transformation capacity across 14 power-generating and consumer states. The initiative will seamlessly evacuate clean electricity generated from mega solar parks and offshore wind farms into the National Grid.
Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) officials affirmed that the approval represents a cornerstone milestone towards meeting India's COP26 Panchamrit commitment to establish 500 GW of non-fossil electrical capacity by 2030.
Grid stability infrastructure, clean energy financing, and national decarbonisation initiatives are essential topics in Indian economy and geography syllabi. Candidates should note that India aims to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2070 under its Long-Term Low-Emission Development Strategy.
