NEW DELHI, October 4 — The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) officially rolled out the operational guidelines for "National Coastal Mission 2.0" (NCM 2.0) across 9 coastal States and 4 Union Territories on Sunday.
The multi-year intervention prioritises large-scale mangrove habitat restoration under the MISHTI framework, coral reef bioshield enhancement, satellite-guided shoreline erosion mitigation, and strict Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) compliance enforcement. The roadmap allocates dedicated funding to support eco-tourism ventures and sustainable mariculture livelihood options for indigenous fishing communities.
MoEFCC officials highlighted that NCM 2.0 strengthens natural buffer zones against recurring cyclonic surges and sea-level rise along the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal seaboards.
Coastal geomorphology, marine protected areas, and climate adaptation frameworks are vital subjects in environment and geography sections of UPSC and state PSC exams. Candidates should know that India's total coastline extends over 7,516.6 kilometres across 13 maritime States and Union Territories.
