NEW DELHI, October 5 — In a landmark institutional reform aimed at standardizing defense entrance testing, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG), operating under the Ministry of Defence, has announced that future intake cycles for Navik (General Duty) and Navik (Domestic Branch) under CGEPT batches 01/27 and 02/27 will be administered centrally by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC).
According to Coast Guard Headquarters, transferring the computer-based testing pipeline to the SSC leverages the commission's high-security biometric infrastructure, AI-monitored examination centers, and pan-India reach to eliminate scheduling redundancies. Detailed vacancy breakdowns and online registration portals will be operationalized on `ssc.gov.in` on October 6, 2026, inviting applications from 10th and 10+2 (with Physics and Mathematics) qualified male and female citizens.
The multi-tier assessment features a Computer Based Examination assessing technical aptitude and general knowledge, followed by an electronically monitored Physical Fitness Test (PFT) and comprehensive military medical screening. Selected sailors will enter at 7th CPC Pay Matrix Level 3 with a basic pay of ₹21,700 alongside standard defense allowances.
Maritime security forces, the Coast Guard Act of 1978, and central defense recruitment frameworks are essential subjects in NDA, CDS, CAPF, and SSC examinations. Candidates should remember that the Indian Coast Guard was formally established on August 18, 1978 under the Coast Guard Act, 1978 as an independent armed force of the Union, operating under the motto "Vayam Rakshamah" (We Protect) to secure India's 7,516-km coastline and Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
