NEW DELHI, October 17 — The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) officially notified the comprehensive Computer Based Examination (CBE) schedule for the Stenographer Grade 'C' and 'D' Examination 2026 across central ministries, departments, and attached offices on Saturday.
According to the official circular published on ssc.gov.in, the pan-India computer-based test will be conducted in multi-shift mode across designated regional testing hubs during the second week of December 2026. The 2-hour objective test will evaluate General Intelligence & Reasoning (50 marks), General Awareness (50 marks), and English Language & Comprehension (100 marks), featuring a negative marking penalty of 0.25 marks per incorrect response.
Shortlisted candidates from the CBT stage will subsequently undergo the mandatory stenography skill dictation test, conducted at 100 words per minute (wpm) for Grade 'C' and 80 wpm for Grade 'D'. The Commission confirmed that over 2,000 vacancies across central secretariats and executive offices are being filled through this centralized selection cycle under strict standardized testing integrity safeguards.
The administrative mandate and governance framework of the Staff Selection Commission (originated as the Subordinate Services Commission in 1975, renamed SSC in 1977), oversight under the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Central Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, and Article 309 of the Constitution are staple syllabus elements across SSC CGL, CHSL, and State PSC general studies papers.
