NEW DELHI, October 17 — The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) announced the final merit list for the Combined Geo-Scientist Examination (CGSE) 2026 on Saturday, recommending 112 candidates for Group 'A' appointments across prestigious scientific departments.
The final merit ranking combines scores obtained in the Stage-I preliminary objective screening, the Stage-II descriptive written examination, and the rigorous Stage-III personality test conducted at Dholpur House. Successful candidates have been allocated across premier technical cadres: Geologist Group 'A', Geophysicist Group 'A', and Chemist Group 'A' in the Geological Survey of India (Ministry of Mines), as well as Scientist 'B' (Hydrogeology) in the Central Ground Water Board (Ministry of Jal Shakti).
The Commission noted that recommended candidates will undergo comprehensive field orientation and specialized geological mapping training, deploying advanced satellite remote sensing and deep-crustal geophysical exploration to accelerate domestic critical mineral discoveries under the National Mineral Exploration Policy.
The constitutional provisions governing the Union Public Service Commission (Articles 315–323 in Part XIV of the Constitution), the institutional heritage of the Geological Survey of India (established in 1851 with headquarters at Kolkata), and National Water Mission targets under CGWB form core components across UPSC General Studies and engineering/geological recruitment exams.
