NEW DELHI, October 8 — The Bharat 6G Alliance (B6GA), supported by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and leading academic research hubs, on Thursday showcased 15 foundational Standard-Essential Patents (SEPs) during the India Mobile Congress (IMC 2026) at Pragati Maidan.
The patented innovations encompass indigenous Sub-Terahertz (0.1 to 1 THz) beamforming transceiver architectures, Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS) engineered to redirect wireless wavefronts around physical obstacles, and ultra-low-latency optical backhaul routing systems developed by premier Indian technical institutes alongside deep-tech telecom enterprises.
Under the 'Bharat 6G Vision Document' rolled out by the Union Government, India has targeted securing at least 10 percent of all global 6G patents by 2030, marking a deliberate structural shift from being a technology-adopting market to an intellectual property standard-setter. Technologies displayed at the exhibition were nurtured under the Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF), paving the path for multi-gigabit wireless backbones essential for autonomous transportation, remote surgical automation, and holographic presence interfaces.
Electromagnetic spectrum physics (terahertz vs millimeter wave frequencies), metamaterial-based Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces, Standard Essential Patents (SEPs) under the WTO TRIPS regime, and the regulatory mandate of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) are high-yield areas for UPSC Civil Services (GS-III: Science and Technology). Candidates should note that the Bharat 6G Alliance operates through dedicated working groups aligning with international standards organizations including the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) and ITU.
