NEW DELHI, October 16 — The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) on Friday formally expanded the indigenous U-WIN digital portal across all 36 States and Union Territories, establishing full electronic registries for maternal and infant immunization under the Universal Immunisation Programme (UIP).
Engineered upon the robust cloud architecture of the pandemic-era Co-WIN platform, U-WIN maintains a portable, lifetime electronic vaccination ledger for every pregnant mother and child from birth up to 16 years, tracking 12 vaccine-preventable diseases. The platform issues QR-code authenticated, downloadable digital certificates universally recognizable across public health centers and private pediatric clinics nationwide.
Public health officials underlined that U-WIN equips grassroots Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) and Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs) with automated due-list SMS alerts to track immunization dropouts and zero-dose children, accelerating the coverage objectives of Intensified Mission Indradhanush (IMI).
The historical evolution of the Universal Immunisation Programme (launched in 1985), the strategic components of Mission Indradhanush, national benchmarks for Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) and Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR), and UN Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being) constitute core syllabus areas across UPSC Civil Services (GS-II: Social Justice & Health) and medical officer exams.
