NEW DELHI, October 11 — Commemorating the International Day of the Girl Child (observed globally on October 11), the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MoWCD) on Sunday released national demographic audit figures from the Health Management Information System (HMIS), confirming that India's Sex Ratio at Birth (SRB) has improved by 19 points—from 918 girls per 1,000 boys in 2014-15 to 937 in 2025-26—under the flagship 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' (BBBP) intervention.
Addressing a national conclave at Vigyan Bhawan, Ministry leadership highlighted that secondary school Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) for girls concurrently rose to 81.2 percent, alongside 100 percent institutional parity in functional separate girls' toilets across government schools. To expand economic agency under the 'Sambal' vertical of Mission Shakti, the government inaugurated a dedicated non-traditional livelihood (NTL) and STEM digital skilling curriculum integrated with Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) hubs across all districts.
Officials further noted that the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY) small-savings architecture has crossed 4.1 crore active accounts nationwide, mobilizing over ₹2.4 lakh crore in sovereign-backed long-term educational endowments for girls.
Demographic indicators (Sex Ratio at Birth vs Child Sex Ratio 0-6 years), the tri-ministerial convergence structure of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (launched on January 22, 2015, in Panipat, Haryana across MoWCD, MoHFW, and Ministry of Education), enforcement of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PC-PNDT) Act 1994, and Mission Shakti sub-schemes ('Sambal' for safety/security and 'Samarthya' for empowerment) are foundational themes for UPSC Civil Services (GS-I: Population & Society; GS-II: Vulnerable Sections).
