AP DSC Cut-Off: How the Merit List Is Made (80:20, District Posts, Roster) and Why No Figures Are Quoted Here

AP DSC cut-off explained from the Mega DSC 2025 bulletin: no official cut-off marks are reproduced here, but the rules that produce them are. The 80:20 written-test and TET merit, district-wise and post-wise selection, vertical and horizontal reservation and roster, local-candidate rules, TET qualifying marks of 60, 50 and 40 per cent, no waiting list, tie-breaks, and where the department publishes merit lists.

The School Education Department does not announce a DSC cut-off in advance. It publishes merit lists, district by district and post by post, after the test. This page reproduces no official cut-off marks: for Mega DSC 2025 we did not find a cut-off document that we could verify against an official PDF, and we will not estimate one. What it does instead is set out, from the Mega DSC 2025 Information Bulletin of 20 April 2025, the rules that produce the merit list. Those rules tell you what you are competing against, which is more useful than a number from another year, district and subject.

How DSC selection works

Stage Rule (2025) Source
Written test CBT, one paper per post; multi-shift scores normalised Bulletin, scheme of examination
Merit marks 80 (written) + 20 (APTET or CTET) = 100 for SGT, SA, TGT and special education; written test alone for PET, SA (Physical Education), PGT and Principal Bulletin, method of selection
Unit of selection District (regular schools) or zone (residential societies), by post and subject Bulletin; vacancy tables
Reservation Vertical (SC in three groups, ST, BC A to E, EWS, open) and horizontal (PwBD, ex-servicemen, women, sportspersons) by roster Bulletin, FAQ
Local candidates AP Public Employment (Organisation of Local Cadres and Regulation of Direct Recruitment) Order, 1975 Bulletin
Selections Not more than the notified vacancies; no waiting list; unfilled posts carried forward Bulletin
Ties Older candidate, then female, then community order, then qualification dates Bulletin

So there is no "DSC cut-off". There is one last-selected mark for every district, post, subject and category line, and the department prints them inside the merit lists rather than as a table.

The 80:20 merit marks

For SGT, School Assistant, TGT and the special education posts, the total is 100: the written paper is already out of 80, and the TET score out of 150 is converted to 20 (the bulletin states the 20 marks; proportional scaling is the natural reading, to be confirmed in the 2026 bulletin). For PET, SA (Physical Education), PGT and Principal, the 100-mark paper is the whole score.

Our arithmetic, not a cut-off: a candidate with 52 in the written test and 90 in the TET has 52 + 12 = 64; one with 52 and 135 has 52 + 18 = 70. Six marks from the TET alone, before either sits the TRT. In a merit list where a district has a handful of posts in a subject, that gap can be the difference between selection and not.

Only a TET score at or above the qualifying mark counts. The exam pattern page has the full worked table.

TET qualifying marks: a floor, not a cut-off

Category Minimum percentage Marks out of 150
OC, EWS 60% 90
BC 50% 75
SC, ST, persons with benchmark disabilities, ex-servicemen 40% 60

These figures are in the 2025 bulletin and repeated in the APTET June 2026 notification, for APTET and CTET alike. They decide whether you hold a certificate and whether your TET score is counted in the 20-mark weightage. They say nothing about the DSC selection mark, which is set by competition inside your line. A BC candidate at 75 brings 10 marks of weightage; the same candidate at 105 brings 14 (arithmetic).

District, post and subject: the unit of selection

The 2025 bulletin said a selection is valid only for the district the candidate applied for. The notification's vacancy tables ran district by district for each School Assistant subject, SGT and Physical Education, with separate tables for municipal schools, tribal welfare ashram schools, juvenile welfare schools and schools for the differently abled; residential and Model School posts were zone-wise. The total was 16,347 posts in 2025, with Kurnool the largest district count (2,678) and Srikakulam the smallest (543).

What this means for a cut-off: a subject with 12 posts in your district, split across roster points, may have none for your category, or one. The last-selected mark in that line can be far above the state picture for the same subject. Read the row for your district, subject and category, never the state total.

Reservation and roster

Two kinds of reservation applied in 2025. Vertical reservation for SC (three groups), ST, BC (A to E) and EWS, with the rest open; horizontal reservation for persons with benchmark disabilities, ex-servicemen, women and meritorious sportspersons. The roster is the ordered table that allots each vacancy to a category; the FAQ said roster points were not allotted in advance for the four horizontal categories, and the bulletin said there was no benchmark-disability quota for SA (Physical Education) and PET posts. A candidate without a valid certificate in the prescribed format is considered in the open category.

Local candidates

The 2025 bulletin applied the 1975 Presidential Order on local cadres, and the certificate-verification list asked for study certificates for classes IV to X (seven years) or a residence certificate, and a local status certificate where migration rules applied. Which order and which certificates the 2026 notification will use is for that document to say; get your study and residence records in order now either way.

No waiting list

The 2025 bulletin was explicit: selections cannot exceed the notified vacancies, there is no waiting list, and unfilled posts are carried forward. So a candidate just below the last selected mark is not called later if someone does not join. That raises the value of every mark near the line.

Tie-breaks

For equal marks the order was: the older candidate; then, if dates of birth are the same, a female candidate over a male; then ST, SC (Groups I to III), BC (A to E), OC; then the date of passing the professional qualification; then the date of passing Intermediate (SGT and PET) or graduation (School Assistants). Nothing in the examination room changes the first tie-breaker, so marks are your only lever.

What moves each line's cut-off

This is our explanation of how such selections behave in general, not a department statement.

  • Paper difficulty and normalisation. A hard shift pulls raw scores down for everyone in it; normalisation lifts them back. Raw marks across shifts are not comparable, so a friend's raw score tells you little about the line.
  • Candidates per post in your line. The number of applicants in your district and subject, divided by the posts for your category, sets the competition. Small districts with few posts in a subject can have the steepest lines.
  • The TET distribution. Because 20 of 100 marks come from TET, a cohort with high TET scores pushes the line up for everyone.
  • Post preferences. A candidate selected for a higher preference is removed from other lists, so the line in a second-preference post can shift as the lists settle.
  • Vacancy size. A 2026 recruitment smaller than 2025's 16,347 (press reports mention around 2,535 or 2,991; neither is a notified list) would raise competition per post, but no one can turn that into a number before the paper.

Common misreadings

  • "The TET pass mark is the DSC cut-off." It is the floor for a certificate and for the weightage, nothing more.
  • "One cut-off for SGT." There is one for every district and category line, and more for each School Assistant subject.
  • "A state-level rank tells me where I stand." Selection is district-wise; only your own line matters.
  • "I'll get in from the waiting list." There is none.
  • "Last cycle's cut-off is this cycle's target." Different vacancies, a possibly different paper and a new local-cadre position make 2025 lines a weak guide even where you can find them.

Where the department publishes results

  • Merit lists: on the AP TET and DSC portal, per subject and district; in 2025 they went up from 22 August 2025, and certificate verification began on 28 August 2025. The MEGA DSC-2025 link on cse.ap.gov.in leads to the portal.
  • Keys: an initial key after the test, an objection window, then a final key.
  • What to look for: your district and subject list, your rank inside your category, and the marks of the last candidate called in your line. When the department publishes figures we can verify, we will add them here with the source.

How to set your own target

Without official cut-offs, set targets from data you control:

  1. Take fixed-paper mocks in the real format (160 questions, 150 minutes for SGT and SA) and track your percentile, not just marks. On Pareeksha everyone in a cohort sits the same paper, so the percentile shows where you stand on identical questions.
  2. Work out your fixed component. If you hold a TET score, convert it (TET ÷ 150 × 20) and note it. Everything else is the written paper.
  3. Aim for a margin in your subject. For SA, 120 of 160 questions are content and methodology; for SGT, 120 are the five subject areas. That is where a margin is built.
  4. Know your line before you apply. District, subject, category and local status decide which list you are on. Get the certificates that take weeks (community, EWS, study, residence) now.
  5. Re-read the vacancy table when the notification comes. The number of posts in your line, not the state total, sets the competition.

Full mocks, previous-year papers and topic practice on Pareeksha are Pro; the 10-question mini-mock is free and opens when the DSC papers go live. See the preparation strategy.

What this page does not have

  • Official last-selected marks for Mega DSC 2025 or earlier cycles, by district, post, subject or category.
  • A conversion formula for the TET weightage printed by the department (the bulletin states 20 marks; scaling is our reading).
  • The 2026 vacancy tables, local-cadre rule and reservation details; they will be in the 2026 notification.
  • Any forecast for 2026.

Frequently asked questions

What was the AP DSC 2025 cut-off?

The department published merit lists for every subject on the portal from 22 August 2025, but we did not find a cut-off document that we could verify against an official PDF, so this page reproduces no cut-off marks. Cut-off numbers on other websites are unofficial unless they link to a department document. Selection was by district, post, subject and category, so there is no single figure anyway.

How is the AP DSC merit list prepared?

For SGT, School Assistant, TGT and the special education posts, on 100 marks: 80 from the written test and 20 from the APTET or CTET score. PET, SA (Physical Education), PGT and Principal are ranked on the written test alone. The list is made district-wise (or zone-wise for residential societies) and post-wise, then the roster of reservations is applied. This is the 2025 rule.

Are the TET pass marks the DSC cut-off?

No. The TET pass marks (90 of 150 for OC and EWS, 75 for BC, 60 for SC, ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen, that is 60, 50 and 40 per cent) only decide whether you hold a certificate and whether your TET score counts in the 20-mark weightage. The DSC selection mark is whatever the last selected candidate in your district, post and category scored.

Is there a waiting list in AP DSC?

No. The 2025 bulletin said the number selected would not exceed the notified vacancies, that there would be no waiting list, and that unfilled posts would be carried forward.

Do SGT and School Assistant selections apply across the state?

No. In 2025 the bulletin said a selection is valid only for the district the candidate applied for, so the competition is inside your district, subject and category. Residential and Model School posts were zone-wise.

Will the DSC 2026 cut-off be higher with fewer posts?

Nobody can say before the paper. Reported vacancy figures for 2026 (around 2,535 or 2,991 in press reports) are not a notified list, and the cut-off depends on paper difficulty, normalisation, the number of candidates in your district and subject, and the roster. Use the rules on this page to set your own target, not a forecast.
