If you have a Master's degree, NET or SET or a PhD, and you want a government teaching job in Madhya Pradesh, this is the one exam you should be watching. MPPSC has notified 949 Assistant Professor posts, and this is what most people mean when they say "MPPSC Lecturer" in MP. The post teaches in government degree colleges under the Higher Education Department.
One thing to clear up before you read further. In MP, the college-level post is Assistant Professor and it comes through MPPSC. The school-level lecturer post (Higher Secondary Teacher) comes through MPESB, not MPPSC. This page is about the MPPSC one. If you mix the two up while filling forms, you'll waste a cycle.

The 2026 notification is live and the exam is happening in groups, subject by subject. Group A has already been written. Groups B and C are still ahead.

MPPSC has revised dates for History, Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Mathematics at least once already. So treat anything marked tentative as tentative. Check the commission's site before you book travel, and keep an eye on exam news updates.
What the job actually is
You teach undergraduate and postgraduate students in a government college. Your day is lectures, practicals if you're in a science subject, internal assessment, exam duty, and the usual college admin work that nobody warns you about. Add NAAC files, admission counselling, and being handed some committee nobody else wants.
Postings are across MP, and the first one is often a small district college in a place you have never visited. Rewa, Chhatarpur, Balaghat, Shahdol. The teaching load is light compared to private colleges. You get study leave and time to finish your PhD or publish if you want a real academic career. The good ones use that free time.

Look at that table honestly. Chemistry and Physics have real numbers. Geology has 8 and Yogic Science has 2. If you're in a small-vacancy subject, your fight is with a handful of seats and hundreds of NET-qualified candidates. Plan accordingly.
Eligibility
Education. Master's degree in the relevant subject with at least 55 per cent marks. Plus NET, SET or SLET. A PhD awarded under UGC 2009 or 2016 regulations exempts you from NET. Relaxed percentage for reserved categories as per UGC norms.
Age. 21 to 40 years, calculated as on the date given in the advertisement.

MP gives generous relaxation to its own residents. Candidates from outside MP get the base limit and pay the higher fee. That is worth knowing before you decide how many attempts you have.
Domicile. Not compulsory to apply, but non-MP candidates are treated as unreserved and lose the fee and age concession.
Physical standards. None. This is a teaching post.

That late fee is real and it climbs steeply near the end. Do not treat the last day as your deadline.
Steps to apply:
- Go to mppsc.mp.gov.in and open the Online Application section.
- Register with your name, date of birth and mobile number as per your marksheet.
- Fill the form, pick your subject and exam city carefully. Subject cannot be changed later.
- Upload photo, signature and required certificates in the given size.
- Pay through the MP Online kiosk or net banking.
- Save the PDF and the transaction ID.
Use the correction window if you make an error. MPPSC does give one, but only for a short period.

Each right answer gives 4 marks. Each wrong answer costs 0.25. Paper is OMR based and bilingual, Hindi and English. Shortlisted candidates then face an interview of 100 marks. Final merit is written plus interview.
Notice the weight. Paper II is 600 out of 800. Your subject decides your result. Paper I decides who gets in when two people have similar subject scores.
Detailed syllabus
Paper I: General Knowledge
Unit 1, History and Culture of MP. Major dynasties like the Paramaras, Chandelas and Gonds. Heritage sites such as Khajuraho, Sanchi, Bhimbetka and Mandu. Tribal communities, folk arts, fairs, MP's role in the freedom struggle, and important personalities from the state.
Unit 2, Geography of MP. Physical divisions, Narmada, Chambal, Tapti and other rivers. Vindhya and Satpura ranges. Climate, soils, forests, national parks. Minerals like diamond, coal and manganese. Irrigation and power projects.
Unit 3, Polity, Governance and Economy. State legislature, Governor, Panchayati Raj in MP, urban bodies. Agriculture, industry, state budget basics and welfare schemes like Ladli Behna.
Unit 4, Current affairs. National and international events, awards, sports, science and technology, and government policy. This unit rewards people who read daily. Keep a simple habit going with a daily current affairs feed rather than cramming in the last week.
Unit 5, Information and Communication Technology. Computer basics, input and output devices, internet, e-governance in MP, cyber security, artificial intelligence, cloud computing.

Paper II: Subject paper
MPPSC publishes a separate PDF for each subject. It maps roughly to the UGC NET syllabus, but goes deeper on the postgraduate side. If you've cleared NET, you already know most of it. Download your subject PDF from the commission site, print it, and tick topics as you finish them.

In-hand after NPS and other deductions lands somewhere around Rs 92,000 to Rs 98,000 depending on your city. That's a strong starting salary for a teaching job.
Growth goes through the Career Advancement Scheme. Assistant Professor to Associate Professor to Professor, based on years of service, PhD, publications and orientation courses. Some later move into Principal roles or Higher Education Department administration.

Read the pattern, not the exact number. Unreserved cut-offs sit around 40 to 45 per cent of total marks. Science subjects usually run lower because the papers are harder. ST cut-offs drop sharply in some subjects.
Books and preparation strategy
Months 1 to 3. Finish your subject syllabus once, using your own MA textbooks. Do not buy a new guidebook. Your PG notes are better. Alongside, spend 45 minutes a day on MP General Knowledge.
Months 4 to 5. Solve MPPSC Assistant Professor previous papers of your subject plus UGC NET Paper II papers. Highest-return activity there is. Then start topic-wise practice sets for the GK portion.
Month 6. Full mocks under a timer, at least ten of them. Use the free mock test series and check your negative marking damage after each one. Revise MP static GK twice.

Common mistakes
People treat Paper I as an afterthought. Then two candidates tie on the subject paper and the GK score decides who gets the college. Give it an hour a day.
People also guess too freely. With 0.25 negative on a 4-mark question, wild guessing is cheaper than in most exams, but 40 blind guesses still cost you real marks. Guess when you can eliminate two options, not when you're staring blankly.
Third, don't chase coaching notes for a subject you studied for two years. You already own better material. And don't skip interview prep. 100 marks on a base of 800 can flip a rank.
