If you're from Madhya Pradesh and you want a government job that doesn't need a degree, MP Police Constable is probably the best shot you have. Tenth pass, a decent body, and a written paper that stops at Class 8 level. That's the whole entry ticket.
But don't confuse "easy syllabus" with "easy exam". Last cycle had 7,500 posts and lakhs of forms. The general category written cut-off sat above the 98th percentile. The paper is simple, so everyone scores. That's exactly what makes it hard.
Latest notification status and important dates
Here's the honest position as of July 2026. The MPESB 2026 calendar puts Police Constable in October 2026 (tentative). Separately, the state cabinet has cleared 9,662 police posts, of which roughly 8,500 are constable-level. The formal notification is not out yet. Anyone showing you a confirmed 2026 form date is guessing.

For reference, the last full cycle: 7,500 posts, forms in October 2025, exam from 30 October to 15 December 2025, written result January 2026, and final result with unit allotment on 9 April 2026. Expect a similar rhythm this time.

What the job actually is
A GD constable is the police force's ground layer. Thana duty, patrolling, night gasht, law and order at melas and rallies, VIP bandobast, escorting prisoners, filing daily entries in the roznamcha, and helping seniors with investigation legwork. Postings can be anywhere in MP, including districts you've never visited.
Radio constable is a different life. You sit with wireless sets and control room equipment. Less street, more machine. It needs 12th with Physics and Maths.
Be clear before you apply: shifts are long, leave is not guaranteed, and festivals are working days. People who wanted a desk job regret this one.

Education: Class 10 pass for GD constable. ST candidates have been allowed with Class 8 in past cycles. Radio constable needs 12th with Physics and Maths.

PET is qualifying. You either clear it or you're out. Every year thousands of good written scorers fail here because they started running only after the result. Don't be that person.

- Register with your MP Online / KIOSK ID or apply directly.
- Fill personal details exactly as on your 10th marksheet.
- Upload photo, signature and thumb impression in the given size.
- Pay online and download the confirmation page.
MPESB gives a correction window with a small fee. Use it if a spelling is off. Wrong name spelling has ended candidatures at document verification.

Duration is 2 hours. No negative marking, so leave nothing blank. Questions come in Hindi and English. Radio constable candidates get a separate paper with a Physics and Maths section.

Detailed syllabus
General Knowledge (heaviest weight)
Indian history with focus on the freedom struggle, Indian and MP geography (rivers, national parks, minerals, crops), Constitution basics, panchayati raj, Indian economy basics, sports, awards, books and authors, and MP-specific matter: districts, tribes, folk dance, festivals, tourist places, state schemes, and the current CM, Governor and DGP. MP GK alone can be 8 to 12 questions. Read a state GK book plus daily current affairs.
Reasoning and mental ability
Analogy, odd one out, coding-decoding, blood relations, direction sense, series (number and alphabet), ranking, syllogism, Venn diagrams, calendar and clock, mirror images, paper folding, cubes and dice, statement and conclusion. Nothing exotic. Work through the reasoning guide and then hammer topic-wise practice sets.
Science
Physics: motion, force, work and energy, light, sound, electricity, magnets. Chemistry: matter, atoms, acids and bases, metals and non-metals, common compounds in daily life. Biology: human body systems, nutrition and deficiency diseases, plants, cell basics, common diseases and their carriers. NCERT Class 6 to 10 is the exact level. Nothing beyond it.
Simple arithmetic
Number system, LCM and HCF, simplification, average, percentage, ratio and proportion, profit and loss, simple and compound interest, time and work, time speed distance, mensuration, basic data interpretation. The quantitative aptitude guide covers all of it.
Computer basics
Parts of a computer, input and output devices, MS Office, internet and email terms, shortcut keys. Two to four easy marks.
Salary and career growth
Pay Level 4 under the 7th CPC. Basic pay starts near Rs 19,500 and the level goes up to about Rs 62,000. Add DA, HRA (depends on posting city), travel allowance, uniform allowance, ration and medical benefits.
In-hand during training sits lower, roughly Rs 20,000 to 22,000, since trainees get a stipend structure. After training and confirmation, expect Rs 28,000 to 33,000 per month in hand, more in bigger cities.
Promotion ladder: Constable, Head Constable, Assistant Sub-Inspector, Sub-Inspector, Inspector. Departmental exams and seniority both matter. A constable who studies can reach ASI or SI far faster than one who waits for seniority alone.

Female cut-offs run 10 to 15 marks lower across categories. Read the 2022 row again. A general male candidate needed roughly 81 out of 100 on a Class 8 level paper. That's the real bar.
Books and a 4-month plan
Books that actually work: Lucent's General Knowledge, an MP Samanya Gyan book (Arihant or Ghatna Chakra), NCERT Science 6 to 10, R S Aggarwal for reasoning and arithmetic, and one MPESB previous year paper collection. Free material sits in the Pareeksha Reading Room.
Month 1: Cover NCERT Science and the full arithmetic basics. Start running 3 km every alternate morning. Yes, from day one.
Month 2: MP GK plus Indian history and polity. Do one reasoning chapter daily. Add long jump and shot put practice twice a week.
Month 3: Static GK revision, current affairs of the last 8 months, and 3 full mocks a week. Start timing your 800 m properly.
Month 4: Only revision, previous year papers and mocks. Fix your weak sections using mock analysis. Keep the running going.

Honest advice and common mistakes
Ignoring physical prep until the written result is the single biggest mistake. You get a few weeks between written and PET, and that's not enough to build stamina from zero.
Second mistake is over-reading GK and under-practising arithmetic. GK feels productive because you keep learning new facts. Marks come from speed in maths and reasoning.
Third, people leave questions blank out of habit from negative-marking exams. There's no negative marking here. Mark every single question.
Fourth, chasing five YouTube channels at once. Pick one source per subject and finish it.
Fifth, skipping MP GK because it feels small. Those 10 questions separate ranks.
