If you have a PG degree in hospital administration or public health management, this is one of the very few state government jobs actually meant for you. Most MP aspirants have never heard of it. That's exactly why it's worth a look.
MPPSC Assistant Manager is a small recruitment, run for the Public Health and Medical Education Department. Sixty-eight posts. No general graduate can apply, which keeps the crowd small. But the recruitment has been slow, and if you're waiting for an exam date, you need to know where things actually stand.
Latest notification and important dates
Here's the honest picture as of July 2026. The advertisement came out on 31 December 2024. Applications opened in March 2025, then MPPSC reopened the window again in September 2025. Since then, no exam date has been announced. The post does not appear with a date in the MPPSC 2026 exam calendar either.

What the job actually is
An Assistant Manager here is not a bank-style manager. You sit inside the health administration machinery of Madhya Pradesh. Think district hospitals, medical colleges, civil surgeon offices, state health directorate.
Day to day, the work is hospital and supply-side management. Procurement of drugs and equipment, stores and inventory, vendor bills, NABH and Kayakalp compliance paperwork, staff duty rosters, data returns to the state health directorate. When a new scheme rolls out, you're the person making sure the district actually has the stock and the records to prove it.
It's a desk job with real accountability. You won't be treating patients, but a stockout of a life-saving drug lands on your file. Posting is anywhere in MP, usually a district hospital or a medical college to start. Two years of probation. If you like systems and audits, you'll enjoy it. If you wanted a field job with a jeep, look elsewhere.

Eligibility
Education
You need a post graduate degree or post graduate diploma from a recognised university in one of these: Public Health Management, Hospital Management, Hospital Administration, or Materials Management. Candidates with a PG qualification in Materials Management or Finance and Accounting get preference.
Read that list carefully. An MBA in marketing or HR does not qualify. This is the single biggest reason applications get rejected here.
Age limit
21 to 40 years as on 1 January of the recruitment year. Relaxation follows MP norms.

MP has been generous with the upper limit in recent cycles, so a lot of working professionals are still eligible. Check the age relaxation clause in the actual PDF before you assume anything.
Domicile and physical standards
Open to Indian citizens. But reservation, fee concession and the higher age limit are only for MP domicile holders. Others apply in the unreserved slot at full fee. No physical standard test, no running, no height requirement.

Some sources quote Rs 1000 and Rs 500 for this post. The commission's own advertisement is the final word, so confirm the amount on the payment page itself.
How to apply:
- Go to mppsc.mp.gov.in and open the Online Application section.
- Register with your name, date of birth, mobile and email exactly as on your marksheet.
- Fill the form. Category, domicile, PG subject and university details are the fields people get wrong.
- Upload photo and signature in the given size.
- Pay through the MP Online kiosk or net banking.
- Save the PDF and the transaction receipt. Print two copies.
Use the correction window if you spot a mistake. MPPSC does not entertain requests after it closes.
Exam pattern
Two stages. Written exam, then interview.

Duration is 3 hours. Each right answer gives 3 marks and each wrong one costs 1 mark. That negative marking is heavy, so wild guessing will hurt you. Minimum qualifying marks are 40 percent for UR and 30 percent for reserved categories.
Stage 2: Interview
50 marks. Candidates are called in roughly a 3:1 ratio against vacancies. The final merit list uses written plus interview marks together, so the written paper carries almost 90 percent of the weight. Win it there.

The post sits in pay band Rs 15,600 to Rs 39,100 with grade pay of Rs 5,400, which maps to Level 11 in the MP pay matrix. That's a Class II gazetted level.

That's a strong starting package for a state post. Growth is through departmental promotion to Manager and then Deputy Director level roles in the health directorate, along with normal time-scale increments. Promotions are slow, as in most MP departments, but the pay progression itself is steady.

There's no released cut-off for this post yet, because the first written exam hasn't happened. Anyone showing you a "MPPSC Assistant Manager cut-off 2024" is making it up.
What you can use as a rough benchmark is the qualifying rule and the pattern of similar MPPSC technical posts.

Books and preparation strategy
Part B decides your result. Spend 70 percent of your time there.
For public health, Park's Textbook of Preventive and Social Medicine is the base. Read it selectively, not cover to cover. For hospital management, use Hospital Administration by S.L. Goel or Principles of Hospital Administration by Sakharkar. Add the NABH entry level standards PDF, free on the NABH site, and the current National Health Policy document.
For Part A, one MP GK book in Hindi or English plus monthly current affairs is enough. Don't over-invest here. It's only 150 of 450 marks and the questions are standard.
A three-month plan that works:
- Month 1: Finish one full reading of hospital management. Parallel, 45 minutes daily on MP GK.
- Month 2: Public health and national health programmes. Start weekly full-length mock tests.
- Month 3: Revision, national programme numbers and targets, previous MPPSC papers, two mocks a week with strict timing.

Common mistakes and honest advice
The first mistake is applying without checking whether your PG subject matches the list. People with a general MBA apply, pay the fee, and get rejected at document verification. Read the qualification clause twice.
Second, ignoring negative marking. At minus 1 per wrong answer, 40 blind guesses can wipe out 40 marks. If you can't cut the options down to two, leave it.
Third, treating this like a normal GK exam. Two-thirds of the paper is technical. Someone with a strong hospital administration base and average GK will beat a GK champion with weak subject knowledge.
Fourth, sitting idle waiting for the exam date. This recruitment has already dragged past a year. When the date finally comes it will land with barely a month's notice.
Be realistic about scale too. Sixty-eight posts across the whole state is small. But the applicant pool is small because of the qualification filter, so your real competition may be a few thousand people, not lakhs. That's a far better ratio than SSC CGL or RRB NTPC.

Final word
This is a niche post and that's its biggest advantage. Almost nobody outside the hospital administration field can even apply. If you hold that PG degree, you're already inside a very small room.
