MP Patwari 2026: Notification Status, Vacancy, Syllabus, Salary and How to Prepare

MP Patwari 2026 update: notification status, MPESB exam pattern, syllabus, age limit, fee, salary, past cut-off and a study plan that actually works.

Ask any student in Madhya Pradesh which government job they want first, and Patwari comes up almost every time. The reason is simple. You only need a graduation degree, the paper has no interview, and you get posted in your own district doing real field work with real authority. For lakhs of students in Bhopal, Rewa, Sagar and Indore, this is the first serious target.

But here's the part nobody says out loud. The last Patwari recruitment was a mess, the wait between two cycles has been long, and the competition is savage. So before you spend a year on it, you should know exactly where things stand right now, in July 2026.

Latest notification and important dates

Let me be straight with you. As of 30 July 2026, MPESB has not released a fresh MP Patwari notification. The last full cycle was the Group-2 Sub Group-4 advertisement of 2022-23. The 2026 MPESB exam calendar does carry Group-level recruitment slots, but no separate Patwari advertisement has been published yet. Anyone showing you a "confirmed" 2026 Patwari date is guessing.

Event Status / Date
MP Patwari 2026 notification Not released yet (as of 30 July 2026)
Conducting body MPESB (MP Employees Selection Board, ex-Vyapam / PEB)
Post group Group-2, Sub Group-4
Group recruitment slot, MPESB 2026 calendar Around April 2026 onwards, tentative
Last notification 5 January 2023
Last application window 5 January to 19 January 2023
Last exam 15 March to 26 April 2023
Last result 30 June 2023, later re-verified after an inquiry
Where to check esb.mp.gov.in

The 2023 result went to a judicial inquiry after cheating allegations. Appointments were cleared only in 2024. That delay is one big reason the next cycle has not come fast. Keep an eye on our exam news page so you catch the advert the day it drops.

What a Patwari actually does

A Patwari is the lowest revenue officer of the state, and also the most visible one in a village. You are attached to a halka, which is a cluster of a few villages under a tehsil.

Your daily work is land. You keep the khasra and khatauni records, mark mutations after a sale or a death, measure plots when two farmers fight over a boundary, and issue reports that a tehsildar signs. After hailstorm or drought you do crop loss survey, and your report decides who gets compensation. You also get deputed for elections, census and scheme verification.

It is a field job, not a desk job. You will ride a bike in the sun and be available on the phone at odd hours. But you carry weight in your area from day one, and the record work is now largely digital, so the skill you build is useful.

Vacancy details

The 2022-23 cycle was advertised for 6,755 posts in total under Group-2 Sub Group-4. Of these, roughly 3,555 were Patwari posts under the Revenue Department, and the rest were other combined posts like Sub Engineer, Assistant Grade-3, Stenographer and similar clerical roles across departments.

Cycle Total posts Patwari share
2022-23 6,755 about 3,555
2017 9,235 Patwari only
2026 Not announced Not announced

Expect the next one to again be a combined Group-2 Sub Group-4 advert rather than a Patwari-only advert. That matters, because one form covers many posts and you fill preferences.

Eligibility

Education. Graduation in any stream from a recognised university. You also need a CPCT score card (Computer Proficiency and Certification Test) with Hindi typing, valid on the date required. Many students lose the job here, not in the written paper. CPCT is held regularly, so clear it early and keep it in hand.

Age (as on 1 January of the recruitment year).

Category Minimum Maximum
Unreserved male (outside MP or open) 18 40
MP domicile SC / ST / OBC / EWS 18 45
Women (all categories, MP domicile) 18 45
Ex-servicemen, government servants 18 45 (as per MP rules)
PwD 18 45

Domicile. You do not need MP domicile to apply, but reservation and the relaxed 45-year age limit and the lower fee are only for MP residents. An outside candidate is treated as unreserved.

Physical standards. None. There is no running test and no height requirement. If you want a job with physicals, look at MP Police Constable or SSC GD Constable instead.

Application process and fee

Category Exam fee
Unreserved / other state Rs 500
MP SC, ST, OBC, EWS, PwD Rs 250
MP Online kiosk / portal charge Rs 60 (Rs 20 if applied yourself)

Steps to apply once the advert is live:

  1. Register on esb.mp.gov.in and get your profile made through MP Online.
  2. Fill personal details exactly as on your marksheet. One spelling mismatch causes rejection at document verification.
  3. Upload photo, signature and thumb impression in the given size, then pay the fee online.
  4. MPESB allows a correction window with a small charge per correction. Use it if needed.
  5. Take two printouts of the final form.

Exam pattern

Single online (CBT) paper. No interview.

Part Subjects Questions Marks
Part A General Knowledge, General Hindi, General English, General Maths, General Science 100 100
Part B General Aptitude, General Computer Knowledge, General Reasoning, General Management 100 100
Total 200 200

Duration is 2 hours (3 hours for the combined paper in some adverts, check the notice). No negative marking. Attempt every question. Papers are held in multiple shifts, so MPESB applies normalisation across shifts, and your final score can be a little above or below your raw score.

There is a 5 percent bonus-mark benefit for MP-domicile candidates in some MPESB adverts. Read the advert line, do not assume.

Detailed syllabus

General Knowledge. MP-focused GK carries the most weight: MP history, Rajya ke pramukh vyaktitva, rivers, national parks, tribes, folk dance, fairs, districts, schemes of the state government. Add Indian polity, history, geography, and economy at a basic level. Daily current affairs of the last 8 to 10 months, national and MP-specific.

General Hindi. Sandhi, samas, upsarg-pratyay, paryayvachi, vilom, muhavare and lokoktiyan, vakya shuddhi, ling-vachan, tatsam-tadbhav, ras-chhand-alankar. This section is scoring and most students take it lightly.

General English. Tenses, articles, prepositions, active-passive, direct-indirect, synonyms, antonyms, one-word substitution, error spotting, short comprehension. Class 10 level only.

General Maths. Number system, LCM-HCF, simplification, percentage, profit and loss, ratio, average, SI and CI, time and work, time-speed-distance, mensuration, basic data interpretation. Our quantitative aptitude guide covers this whole list with shortcuts.

General Science. Class 8 to 10 physics, chemistry and biology. Human body, diseases, vitamins, units and measurement, light, sound, acids and bases, metals, everyday science.

General Reasoning. Series, analogy, coding-decoding, blood relation, direction, ranking, syllogism, Venn diagram, non-verbal figures, mirror image. Work through the reasoning guide chapter by chapter.

Computer Knowledge. Parts of a computer, input-output devices, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, shortcut keys, internet and email, operating systems, file extensions, basic cyber terms.

General Management. Panchayati Raj, rural development, MP revenue administration, disaster management, basics of management functions, government schemes for villages. This is the section people ignore and then lose 10 marks on.

Salary and career growth

Patwari falls in pay scale Rs 5,200 to 20,200 with Grade Pay Rs 2,100, which places the entry basic near Rs 22,100 in the MP pay matrix.

Component Approximate monthly
Basic pay Rs 22,100
Dearness allowance as per current DA rate
HRA / TA by posting city class
Deductions (NPS, tax) about 10 percent of basic plus tax
In-hand, roughly Rs 24,000 to 30,000

The salary is not big. The value sits elsewhere: home district posting, job security, and a promotion ladder that goes Patwari to Revenue Inspector to Naib Tehsildar to Tehsildar. A Patwari who keeps a clean record and clears departmental exams can reach Naib Tehsildar, which is a genuinely senior post in the district.

Previous year cut-off

MPESB publishes selection lists rather than clean category cut-offs, so treat the numbers below as reported final-selection levels from 2023, out of 200 after normalisation.

Category Reported cut-off (out of 200)
Unreserved (male) around 172 to 176
Unreserved (female) around 165 to 170
OBC around 165 to 170
SC around 155 to 162
ST around 145 to 155

Read that table again. A general candidate needed roughly 86 percent to get in. This is not an exam you clear by "attempting well". You clear it by being accurate on easy questions and fast enough to attempt all 200.

Books and a month-wise plan

For books, one standard MP GK book (Ghatna Chakra or McGraw Hill MP), Lucent for general science and Indian GK, a Hindi vyakaran book by Hariday Kumar or Vasudev Nandan Prasad, Fast Track or Rakesh Yadav for maths, and any MPESB previous-year paper collection. Do not buy ten books. Buy five and finish them.

A four-month plan that works if you give 5 to 6 hours a day:

  • Month 1. Maths and reasoning basics, one chapter a day, plus 1 hour MP GK. Start current affairs daily.
  • Month 2. Finish maths and reasoning, start Hindi grammar and science. Begin topic-wise practice sets after every chapter.
  • Month 3. Computer, management, English. Two full mock tests a week from the free mock test series. Analyse each one for a full hour.
  • Month 4. Revision only, plus a mock every alternate day. Revise MP GK three times in this month.

If you cannot build a schedule yourself, use our ready study plan and adjust the dates.

Honest advice and common mistakes

Students preparing for Patwari repeat the same errors. They study national GK and skip MP-specific GK, which is where the paper is actually decided. They leave questions blank even though there is no negative marking. They ignore CPCT until the result comes out and then panic. They read theory for months and take their first mock two weeks before the exam.

One more thing. Because the notification timing is uncertain, do not sit idle waiting. The syllabus overlaps heavily with MP Police Constable, MP Jail Prahari and central exams like SSC CGL and RRB NTPC. Prepare once, apply to five.

Final word

Patwari is worth chasing if you want to stay in Madhya Pradesh, want a field posting, and can handle a paper where 170 out of 200 is normal. It is not worth chasing if you plan to wait for the notification before you start studying, because by then you will have three months and the toppers will have had two years.
