NEW DELHI, August 7 — The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) officially included heatwaves and lightning in the list of notified natural disasters under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) guidelines.

The decision allows state governments to utilize funds from the disaster response reserves to provide immediate financial relief, medical aid, and compensation to families affected by extreme heatwaves and lightning strikes. Previously, states had to request special packages or use local budgets, as these weather hazards were not classified as national calamities.

The ministry stated that the change was made following recommendations from environmental panels and rising casualty trends during summer monsoons.

Disaster management regulations and government funds are core general studies topics. Candidates should note that the SDRF is constituted under Section 48(1)(a) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, and is funded primarily by the Central Government.

नई दिल्ली, 7 अगस्त — गृह मंत्रालय (MHA) ने राज्य आपदा प्रतिक्रिया कोष (SDRF) और राष्ट्रीय आपदा प्रतिक्रिया कोष (NDRF) के दिशानिर्देशों के तहत लू (हीटवेव) और बिजली गिरने को अधिसूचित प्राकृतिक आपदाओं की सूची में आधिकारिक तौर पर शामिल कर लिया है।

यह निर्णय राज्य सरकारों को अत्यधिक लू और बिजली गिरने से प्रभावित परिवारों को तत्काल वित्तीय राहत, चिकित्सा सहायता और मुआवजा प्रदान करने के लिए आपदा प्रतिक्रिया कोष का उपयोग करने की अनुमति देता है। पहले राज्यों को विशेष पैकेजों का अनुरोध करना पड़ता था या स्थानीय बजट का उपयोग करना पड़ता था, क्योंकि इन मौसम संबंधी खतरों को राष्ट्रीय आपदाओं के रूप में वर्गीकृत नहीं किया गया था।

मंत्रालय ने कहा कि यह बदलाव पर्यावरण पैनल की सिफारिशों और गर्मी के मौसम में बढ़ती मौतों के रुझान को देखने के बाद किया गया है।
