NEW DELHI, August 7 — India marked its fifth annual National Javelin Day on Friday, August 7, celebrating the achievements of Indian track and field athletes and promoting javelin throw at the grassroots level.
The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) designated August 7 as National Javelin Day in 2021 to commemorate Neeraj Chopra's historic gold medal win in the men's javelin throw at the Tokyo Olympics. The victory marked India's first-ever Olympic gold medal in track and field events. State athletic associations organized local tournaments and coaching camps for school children to celebrate the occasion.
The AFI announced plans to establish specialized training centres to support young throwing talents across rural districts.
