AMARAVATI, October 4 — In a decisive infrastructure commitment to guarantee potable piped water security across all rural habitations, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan announced the execution blueprint of the ₹30,000-crore "Jal Jeevan Mission – Amarajeevi Jaladhara" programme.
The mega-initiative will construct integrated multi-village and single-village water grid networks diverting treated surface water from the Krishna and Godavari river corridors to more than 18,000 rural villages and tribal thandas. The project heavily targets endemic fluoride-affected and chronically drought-prone belts across Prakasam, Anantapur, and Kurnool districts, establishing raw water intakes, advanced filtration plants, and gravity-fed distribution mains.
Deputy Chief Minister Kalyan noted that the scheme—named in honor of revered statehood martyr Amarajeevi Potti Sreeramulu—carries a rigorous 36-month commissioning timeline, co-financed on a 50:50 parity model under the Union Jal Shakti Ministry's Jal Jeevan Mission framework.
Rural drinking water infrastructure, water quality surveillance, and Jal Jeevan Mission parameters are indispensable components of APPSC and UPSC General Studies (Economy & Governance). Aspirants should note that the Jal Jeevan Mission was launched on August 15, 2019 under the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation to deliver 55 litres per capita per day (lpcd) of safe drinking water to every rural home through functional household tap connections (FHTC).
