NEW DELHI, October 11 — The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) on Sunday issued final empaneled work orders to deploy a sovereign high-performance computing infrastructure exceeding 18,000 Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) under the ₹10,371.92 crore 'IndiaAI Mission', democratizing supercomputing access for domestic startups, academic labs, and governance researchers.
Implemented by the 'IndiaAI' Independent Business Division (IBD) under the Digital India Corporation (DIC), the public-private partnership compute grid will offer subsidized AI training compute at globally competitive tariffs alongside 'AIKosh'—a unified non-personal datasets platform curating anonymized Indian demographic, agricultural, and meteorological repositories.
Concurrently, the Ministry disbursed first-tranche innovation grants to indigenous consortia building sovereign Large Multimodal Models (LMMs) trained natively across all 22 Eighth Schedule Indian languages in synergy with the 'BHASHINI' national language translation mission, targeting domain-specific deployment across healthcare triage, precision agronomy, and judicial transcription.
The seven-pillar architecture of the IndiaAI Mission (Compute Capacity, Innovation Centre, Datasets Platform, Application Development, FutureSkills, Startup Financing, and Safe & Trusted AI), the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI New Delhi Declaration), and statutory guardrails under the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act 2023 are primary syllabus areas across UPSC Civil Services (GS-II: E-Governance; GS-III: Emerging Technologies).
