VASCO DA GAMA, October 15 — The Indian Navy on Wednesday formally commissioned the advanced stealth guided-missile frigate 'INS Triput', constructed under the follow-on Project 1135.6 program, into operational service during a ceremonial naval event hosted at Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL).
Displacing approximately 3,900 tonnes and stretching 125 meters in length, the warship incorporates optimized radar cross-section (RCS) shaping, indigenous acoustic-dampening coatings, and an integrated weapons suite comprising vertical-launched BrahMos supersonic anti-ship and land-attack cruise missiles alongside medium-range surface-to-air missile (MRSAM) batteries and advanced hull-mounted sonars.
Senior naval commanders emphasized that the induction of INS Triput substantially augments fleet multi-domain combat readiness across contested sea lanes in the Northern Indian Ocean, showcasing domestic shipbuilding maturity under the 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' defence framework.
The naval procurement lineage under Project 1135.6 (Talwar class derivatives), indigenous shipbuilding programs under Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs like GSL, MDL, and GRSE), missile engagement envelopes (BrahMos and Barak-8), and India's maritime security architecture form core topics across UPSC Civil Services (GS-III: Internal Security & Defence Technology) and Defence service examinations (CDS/NDA/AFCAT).
