NEW DELHI, October 15 — The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Wednesday officially notified the Engineering Services Examination (ESE) 2027 on its portal upsc.gov.in, initiating centralized recruitment for 457 Group 'A' engineering positions across premier Union ministries and subordinate technical directorates.
The annual examination covers four primary engineering disciplines: Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, catering to vacancies in the Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS), Central Public Works Department (CPWD), Military Engineer Services (MES), and Indian Naval Armament Service. Eligible engineering graduates can submit online registrations between October 15 and November 5, 2026.
According to the Commission's schedule, the Stage-I Preliminary objective examination will be administered across designated metropolitan centers in late February 2027. It comprises Paper-I (General Studies and Engineering Aptitude, 200 marks) and Paper-II (Discipline-specific engineering paper, 300 marks), serving as a competitive filter for the descriptive Stage-II Mains examination.
The constitutional role of the UPSC under Articles 315–323, recruitment jurisprudence under Article 309, and the structural mandates of historic infrastructure departments such as the CPWD (established in 1854) and Military Engineer Services (MES) are essential study components for UPSC Civil Services (GS-II: Constitutional Bodies & Governance) and engineering recruitment aspirants.
